One page websites

Well, one particular winner for me came from the Web Design Ledger´s 40 inspiring single page websites, www.thegreatbeardedreef.com.  Anybody who knows my penchant for silliness can understand why this one was a favorite.  First of all its illustrations and font choices are just plain cute.  The background colors offer great contrast and the copy is humorous.  Just what Stevie likes.  The only thing I would possibly add is more info on the what the purpose of the website was.  You do eventually find out but it is later in the page.

The second page that caught my eye for different reasons was www.melissahie.com.  The site is for a very talented graphic designer (at least from this humble designer´s perspective).  The initial page that is called up instantly catches your eye with the tremendous contrast between the black, gray, and pink hues that she incorporates.  The layout for her links is simple and straight forward.  The cool kicker though is when you click on a link.  The page literally travels to the appropriate new section (something I realize I am describing horribly...better seen, not described).  Each new page has its own marked change in background color which is another bonus.  With this site, two things that I found that I think could be designed better is, first, the websites sample page had i frames that were too small for my liking.  You couldn´t get a good feel for how the samples really looked.  I would also have increased the size of the font on all of her pages with copy (e.g. about me, contact page, etc.), not a bunch, but a few ticks more just to make it stand out a bit.
